73 miles of beautiful scenery, roller-coaster rapids, relaxing pools and white sandy beaches.
Our Main Salmon trip is a great way to reboot family connections and recharge energy stores. It is an ideal family trip; we take children as young as 5, and multi-generational trips are the norm.
The trip begins at Hammer Creek Launch near White Bird, Idaho. We spend four days floating the Main Salmon into the Snake River and our fifth day floating down to the take-out at Heller Bar, near Lewiston, Idaho.
It’s 73 miles of beautiful scenery, roller-coaster rapids, relaxing pools and white sandy beaches.
We pass through three states (Oregon, Washington, Idaho) and four uniquely stunning canyons (Green, Cougar, Snow Hole, Blue). The water is warm, perfect for floating along beside the boats or taking swims at camp. The weather is usually warm and dry in this desert river canyon. In late summer and early fall, it is uncrowded.
The canyon is full of wildlife and history. We often see eagles, osprey, otter, beaver, deer and bighorn sheep. The canyon was home to the Nez Perce and Chief Joseph, and we can see some of their rock art. Chinese gold miners worked in the area; we’ll see evidence of their operations. There are old, abandoned ranches and a few working ones.
We provide all of the camp gear; you need bring only a sleeping bag, pillow and personal things.
We send a boat ahead to set up the camp and kitchen. When we arrive at camp, you pick up your personal bag and choose your tent. We put just two people in a six-man tent; they’re roomy and tall.
Then, start enjoying your time at the beach and spend a lot of time splashing in the river and having fun.
Our guides prepare delicious dinners and hearty breakfasts in Dutch ovens and over open coals.
We accommodate special dietary considerations with prior notice. We serve a deli-style lunch each day. There is a well-stocked beverage cooler in each boat.
You may choose to float in and/or smallmouth bass fish from one of our drift boats. We provide all of the fishing gear and tackle you’d need. Or more of you can float together in either a paddle assisted raft or an oar-powered raft. If you need to shorten the length of your trip, a jet boat out option at additional cost is available but must be pre-arranged.
Let our family host your family on a trip we know you’ll enjoy. It’s the perfect adventure for everyone.
